These pretty birds hold their tails upright, nearly vertical. That paired with their long necks gives them a unique appearance. This ancient breed has its origin in the Nile Valley. They are relatively new to the US, and still quite rare here. Their appearance is remarkably similar to the Silver variety of the Campine breed of Belgium, and the Campine may be descended from a Fayoumi-like chicken brought north in Europe by the Romans. Fayoumis are a hardy breed. They can be a good choice for a small farm, since they are good foragers, economical eaters, independent, tough, aware of their surroundings and good at avoiding predators. The Egyptian Fayoumi is just one of the many unique and beautiful birds you can see at Spokane premiere Petting Farm, brought to you by Mountain Valley View Farm.
